Simple Summer Skincare Routine
It’s official, the heats out and it’s not holding back. The winter skincare routine that gave you so much hydration and moisture during the cold winter months will have you looking super oily and feeling icky this summer, if you don’t make some changes. Though skincare is important year round, my skincare routine is 10x’s more low maintenance during the warmer months of the year. So easy, a caveman could do it.
Cleanser
You probably expected this to be number one on the list but I cannot stress this enough. During the summer we’re outside, we’re going on trips, we’re at the beach and we’re… of course…. sweating. It’s important to rid your skin of bacteria, debris, and any other toxins from the air around us that we may come in contact with.
Toner or Astringent
Some people don’t really know what distinguishes an astringent from a toner. (I may or may not be one of those people.) However, I’ll let you in on what I do know. They are both water-based skin care products used to remove any cleanser or makeup residue that was left behind after step 1. Now some differences: most toners are meant to hydrate the skin, leaving it soft and supple. Some of them also have ingredients to even out texture and brighten or even out the skin tone. Now think of astringent as a stronger toner. They share the same qualities except they are formulated to remove excess oil from the skin and some astringents contain a higher amount of alcohol in them. If you’re an oily-girl, an astringent will probably more beneficial to you this summer. Witch hazel is my all time favorite if you’re looking for an easy one to try that won’t break the bank. (Not all astringents contain alcohol so do your research before choosing one.)
Moisturizer
Last but not least…. Yes i said last. This is truly a Skincare Routine for Dummies.
The last step in this short and sweet routine is moisturizing. Even though the hotter months are approaching, we need not to forget to moisturize. Contrary to popular belief, not moisturizing can actually make you more oily than adding the this final step. Neglecting a moisturizer can cause your skin to secrete more oil as an attempt to compensate for the moisture it wasn’t given.
